5th International Bali Democracy Forum opens
5th International Bali Democracy Forum starts working in presence of over 70 heads of states and top officials of Asia-Oceania region countries, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Indonesia’s southern Bali Island.
President of Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is the rotating head of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), arrived in Bali Island Wednesday night, local time, atop a high ranking political delegation.
President Ahmadinejad is among the highest ranking officials attending this year’s two-day Bali Democracy Forum, which is partly due to Iran’s rotating presidency of the NAM, and partly due to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s high level commitment towards strengthening the foundations of democracy and peacemaking in the region and the world.
Iran has always attended the International Bali Democracy Forum, but this is the first time that the IRI president is attending the event, as during the first four forums the Iranian foreign minister represented the Islamic Republic here.
The 5th Bali Democracy Forum is scheduled to be held on November 8 and 9 and the representatives of about 70 countries will participate in the conference.
Among the major issues to be discussed at the meeting are security, peace, human rights and economic development.
Indonesia founded the high-level annual forum in 2008 with the aim of promoting democracy in the Asia-Pacific region.
