The president made the remarks in a ceremony commemorating the start of the Sacred Defense Week at the mausoleum of the Late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in southern Tehran.

He stressed that sacred defense was an experience for the Iranian nation that clearly and accurately illustrated the dominance of materialistic values over the today world, and also the power and capability of the nations in finding ways to accomplish the mankind’s high ambitions.

“Our sacred defense was not defending a country, a nation or a school of thought, but rather a way to safeguard the human rights and dignity of all nations," President Ahmadinejad said.

President Ahmadinejad condemned the arrogance powers’ support of the Zionists’ acts and said,” The uncultured Zionists seek to create division among religions to salvage themselves and the leaders of the global hegemony justify their (Zionists’) acts.”

He said that the global arrogance plots to impede the nations’ scientific development, stressing “They seek to create sectarian divisions through chicanery while falsely shouting the slogan of [supporting] freedom seeking as well as the freedom of speech and thought.”

Dr.Ahmadinejad said that Iran’s eight-year defense against Iraq’s imposed war was an uprising against the global hegemony.

He criticized the countries claiming to be advocates of human rights for supporting Saddam’s invasion of Iran and said the global powers used all they had in power against Iran and backed the executed Iraqi dictator’s brutal measures, including his use of chemical weapons against the Iranian nation.
