
President honors Iran s Olympic medalists
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has praised the country's athletes who won medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games in a ceremony held in Tehran.
Dr. Ahmadinejad on Saturday night thanked the Iranian Olympians and their coaches for helping the country achieve its best showing ever at the Olympics.
Iran finished in 17th place in this year’s Olympics, with a tally of four gold, five silver, and three bronze medals.
Each Iranian gold medalist will receive 200 gold coins as a reward. The silver medalists will receive 150 gold coins, and the bronze medalists will receive 100 gold coins.
Iranian Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mohammad Abbasi and National Olympic Committee Chairman Mohammad Aliabadi also attended the meeting held to honor Iran's Olympic medalists.
