In a wide-ranging interview Thursday evening with the Associated Press, President Ahmadinejad Responding to a question on Problems of Western civilization asserted: “The civilizations emerged from the demands and common human values and respected and if a criticism has been done is on the behavior of some Western governments, and this is not relate to the nations.
On the Sept. 11 attacks, president said:"I can say with certainty there must have been explosive material that was set off in sequence," he said.
He reiterated his call for an independent investigation, noting there are doubters in the United States as well.
"We thought that the president of the United States would make up for the mistakes of the previous administration and perhaps this would have been a good starting point."
Dr.Ahmadinejad said. "The current president could have said the information was incomplete or perhaps needed more investigation vis-a-vis the events of Sept. 11."
President Ahmadinejad told the AP that it isn’t too late for President Barack Obama to carry out his election pledge to improve ties with Iran after three decades of enmity.
“I don’t believe that this is a chance that has been completely lost,” he said.
“He could have chosen not to continue the wrong path chosen by his predecessor — and he can still do so,” president Ahmadinejad said.
As for the Arab Spring, he said Iran supports any movement that pursues the inalienable rights of all people to freedom, justice and fairness, as long as it doesn't end up in conflict.
"People are always striving for freedom, dignity and justice — and this is not exclusive to Arab countries," he said. "No one can contain such movements in spirit. Even if all of the political might of many countries unite, they will not be able to withstand the pressures of such changes throughout the world."
As for Libya, where there has been intense fighting, he said the people have a right to be free but he strongly opposed the NATO bombing campaign and claimed the goal of the U.S. and its allies was not to protect civilians but to go after control of Libya's oil wealth.
The Americans want Zionist regime and the Palestinians to resume negotiations, president claimed, "to enable the Zionists to draw the most benefit from it."
Dr. Ahmadinejad said Iran had been released the three Americans who they illegally crossed the border while, Today a large number of Iranian are in poor conditions in America’s prisons and unfortunately, people, who always talking about human rights do nothing on freedom of Iranian in America’s prisons.
"At the end of the day, at one point, the Palestinian government will stand up, will be created — if not this year next year, if not next year the following year, because these people do exist," president said. "They are strong. You cannot erase them from history."
Ahmadinejad insisted Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and repeated an offer to meet with world powers to discuss nuclear issues. But he also warned that "the nuclear issue has been manipulated and turned into a political issue."
Responding to a question on rally after Iran's presidential election, president said: “Iran has a population of 75 million people; 40 million, 85 percent of eligible people had participated in the elections and my opponent in Tehran has won 3 million and in the country 13 million votes. Even if 17 million people had participated in that protests it was natural while a significant number of people who participated in the protests they also rose their own demands and legal authorities had considered it. But a few protesters who had no relation to the demonstrators tried to create insecurity and tension and it is natural that the judicial system have a conflict with such people. But this is regretful that Western governments have always supported the violence actions of that a few number, while that claim democracy and majority rule.
