President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad conferred with his Kazakh counterpart on the sidelines of the Tenth Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).



“Regional countries and nations enjoy great historical and cultural commonalties which can together meet their demands and strengthen peace and stability in the region,” said President Ahmadinejad.



Various aspects of bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting.



President Ahamdinejad stressed the need for expansion of cultural relations and exchange of views between Iran and Kazakhstan.



Both sides expressed their satisfaction over the level of bilateral political relations and called for efforts to strengthen their ties in various spheres.



The Kazakh president, for his part, urged regional countries to reinforce unity in order to achieve peace, progress and security.



Nazarbayev said Astana seeks to promote extensive cooperation with Tehran.
