Ahmadinejad Resorting to modern technology we need to move toward new energy sources
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Friday, "Taking full advantage of modern technology, we need to move towards getting access to new sources of energy today." Ahmadinejad who was speaking on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of Razavi Khorasan Province's Binaloud Wind Power Plant and the ground braking ceremony of the 2nd phase of that power plant with 50 new turbines, told the reporters, "The consumption of energy is rapidly increasing around the globe and parallel with the advancement of technology, the mankind is in need of taking greater advantage of the new sources of energy."
He said that there are two major problems with taking advantage of fossil fuels, namely the fact that they are non-renewable, and that they pollute the environment, adding, "That is why like other countries we, too, need to move towards taking advantage of other new sources of energy."
Pointing out that our country has great potentials for taking advantage of wind power, he said, "The wind power is both renewable and non-polluting, which is why it is considered among the best types of energy sources around the world."
He said, "We feel very proud today to announce that 85% of this wind power plant is constructed by the mighty hands of our own technicians."
Pointing out that the government supports the private sector's investments in power plant projects, particularly in case of the wind type plants, he reiterated, "We try to support the private sector by lowering the price of the facilities needed for construction of such power plants."
He added, "The construction of such power plants and taking advantage of this type of energy in the vicinity of each city, or village, where the average velocity of wind would be between seven to eight meters per second and such winds would blow in 25% of the year length is economical and we support such projects."
Binaloud Wind Power Plant with its forty-three 660 KW turbines was constructed relying on a 280 billion rial (over US $28mn) investment and taking advantage of it would lead to economizing 20 million cubic meters of natural gas annually.
