Speaking with the President of Ukraine by telephone on Saturday evening for the second time this week, President Hassan Rouhani referred to the statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the official announcement of the result of investigations over the Ukrainian jetliner crash, saying, "In this statement, it was announced that human error was the result of this incident, and those involved in it will be brought to judicial authorities".

Dr Rouhani said that cooperation would continue with Ukrainian experts taking part, adding, "The Iranian judiciary would soon begin to address the issue".

The president added, "As we are deeply saddened by the loss of a number of Iranians in the accident, we are deeply saddened by the loss of other nationalities as well".

Emphasising that we in Iran and you in Ukraine should attempt to make this tragedy bearable for the two nations and reduce the grief of families, Dr Rouhani said, "I am sending a special envoy to your country in the near future to officially announce the regret and influence of the Iranian nation and government".

"I will instruct the Foreign Minister to keep in touch with your Foreign Minister and to continue working in this field," the President emphasised, saying that Iran is fully committed to its legal obligations".

During the phone call, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky re-expressed condolences over the crash to the Iranian government and nation, saying, "Your statement today was very important to us and Iran's lawful conduct and effective cooperation under these special conditions is appreciated by us".

"I hope that cooperation between Iran and Ukrainian experts sent to Iran will continue so that we can complete these investigations in accordance with legal protocols and transfer the bodies of the dead to their families as soon as possible," Zelensky said.
