Speaking in a press conference in New York on Wednesday, Dr Hassan Rouhani said, “At the General Assembly, an overwhelming majority of world leaders supported the JCPOA as an important diplomacy achievement”.

Stating that the US is isolated in its actions against Iran and that their withdrawal from the JCPOA is not supported by many countries around the world, he continued, “The Security Council’s meeting that was held by Trump in an unusual move against Iran, was held with members objecting the topic and discussing non-proliferation”.

“In this session, it became clear that the US is alone and all countries support the deal and considered US’ move incorrect with direct or indirect tones,” he added.

On his meetings with 16 world leaders on the sidelines of the UNGA, the President added, “In these meetings, one of the most important topics was protecting the JCPOA”.

“Majority of world leaders consider Iran’s adherence to the JCPOA a sign of government’s wisdom,” said Rouhani, adding, “Of course, US’ withdrawal from the deal and imposition of sanctions on Iran created some problems with us, but Iran has experienced harsher points”.

Dr Rouhani added, “At the meeting of 4+1 foreign ministers and EU foreign policy chief at the UN, the five countries announced that they were determined to support the JCPOA and play their role and commitments, and that they were prepared to take steps to reduce the effects of America’s sanctions and pressures on the Iranian economy”.

The President said, “The statement of the meeting showed that Europe, China and Russia are working for consolidation of the JCPOA, and we hope to overcome this situation with the help of law-abiding and multilateralist countries”.
