Speaking at the press conference on Friday, Dr Hassan Rouhani appreciated the people of Kerman province for welcoming and hosting the delegation saying: “It was our responsibility to visit the quake-hit areas and meet with people to hear their concerns”.

He also described meeting with people of Kuhbanan and Ravar, who have been hit by the recent earthquake, as one of the main reasons of the visit to Kerman province.

“In this visit, a number of projects were also opened and started operation and the quantity and quality of these projects are very promising,” he continued.

Dr Rouhani also went on to say: “Because of the opening of a new power plant in Kerman province, power generation in the province has increased by 900 megawatts and from now on, Kerman is an exporter of power to the nationwide network”.

He added: “In this visit, the construction process of a number of very important projects started and some other projects developing”.

Referring to the construction operation of Kerman-Sirjan railway, the President said: “We hope that this significant project finishes by the end of the 12th Government’s term of office”.

Dr Rouhani also expressed hope that the project of transferring water from Oman Sea to Safaroud Dam finish by the end of the 12th Government’s term of office to revolutionize industry in the province.

On visiting the quake-hit areas, the President also said: “We promised people to finalise their permanent housing as soon as 5 months”.

President Rouhani also described the government’s plans and projects in dealing with problems such as dust and air pollution, reducing bureaucracy and reinforcing buildings for possible earthquakes.

Answering a question about the necessity of transparency in economy, he said: “Transparency is very important and I have ordered the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance to announce the amount of budget they allocate to anywhere from the treasury so that people can be informed about it”.

“This is people’s basic right to know how the money in the treasury is spent because it belongs to people and they must know where their money goes,” he said.

At the end of the press conference, Dr Rouhani appreciated the police and security forces, as well as the press for supporting the delegation during the two-say visit to Kerman province.
