President at the session of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution:

Jan 9, 1978 beginning of the massive movement, leading to victory of the revolution/ Ayatollah Hashemi was an outstanding Islamologist, respected by the world/ Unity of all factions, ethnic groups and religions against rioters marked another victory against enemies

Referring to the vigilant presence of the people, Ulama and Maraji in condemning the insult to Imam Khomeini (RA) on January 1978, the president said: "January 9, 1978, was the beginning of a massive movement across the country which led to the final victory of the Islamic Revolution".

Speaking on Tuesday evening at the meeting of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, Dr Hassan Rouhani commemorated Jan 9 martyrs, and added: "The massive uprising in Qom against the article insulting Imam Khomeini (RA), began in the course of the movement of 1963, led to a widespread movement throughout Iran, including in Tabriz, Yazd, etc., ultimately leading to the victory of the Islamic Revolution in February 1979".

The head of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution also referred to the first anniversary of the passing of the late Chairman of the Expediency Council, describing Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani as a distinguished figure, prominent Islamologist, scholar, and politician who was respected by people and even the international community".

Referring to Ayatollah Hashemi's attempts and efforts under the leadership of Imam Khomeini, long-term friendship with the Supreme Leader, as well as his enduring services to the revolution and the people under heavy responsibilities, Dr Rouhani said: "The role of the late Ayatollah Hashemi during the time of the Islamic Movement and later to stabilise the Islamic state, heading the parliament and commanding the war, presidency, and presidency of the Expediency Council are undeniable and its effects on the strength of the Islamic state are lasting".

In another part of his speech, the president addressed the recent events in the country, emphasising the root causes of its cultural and social causes, as well as the efforts of the authorities to communicate with the people and meet their rightful demands, saying: "The passionate and informed presence of the people against some who insulted the sacred values and the flag of the country, on the one hand, led to unity of the factions, parties, ethnic groups and religions against the rioters and, on the other hand, led to another victory against the enemies of our state".

Dr Rouhani also described criticism and legal protests useful for reforming and improving the affairs, adding: "The vigilance of the people, academics and the various classes has proven that, despite the problems that exist, they stand against the abuse of people's demands and provocations of the enemies".

He also appreciated the vigilance of the security and intelligence forces, the police, IRGC and Basij who carried out their duties in addressing the recent incidents alongside the people.
