President in a phone call with Turkish counterpart:

12th Administration determined to develop ties with Turkey as a friend, neighbouring country/ Stressing fostering Iran-Turkey cooperation for settling regional issues

President Rouhani had a phone call with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and referred to amicable, growing relations between Iran and Turkey and stressed the need to develop ties and promote Tehran-Ankara cooperation in all fields.

In the phone call that took place on Thursday, Dr Rouhani congratulated Eid al-Adha to the Turkish government and nation, saying: “The 12th Administration is determined to develop ties with Turkey as a friend, neighbouring country”.

The president also welcomed growing interaction between Iran and Turkey in the recent months, saying: “With serious will and efforts by the authorities of the two countries and forming of a supreme council for Iran-Turkey cooperation, we will witness fundamental developments and our relations and we can develop cooperation to promote ties”.

Referring to the need to deepen ties and consultation between the two countries in resolving regional issues, he said: “Today, the sensitive conditions of the region demands that the two countries must cooperate more for establishing stability and security in the region”.

Unfortunately, there is instability and conflict in some countries of the region and people are not living in peace and stability, said the President adding: “We dearly wished for all nations of the region to be able to take advantage of the blessings of Eid al-Adha”.

Some powers are imposing their wishes on the region, said Dr Rouhani, adding: “Iran does not believe that separationist ideas and tendencies and problems in the Persian Gulf littoral are ever beneficial for peace and stability of the region”.

He also said that complete security has not yet been established in Iraq and Syria, continuing: “As two great regional powers, Iran and Turkey must play a more prominent role for security and stability of the region”.

Expressing regret over what is going on in Myanmar against Muslims, he said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran does not accept the oppression of Muslims anywhere in the world and condemns it”.

President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also congratulated Eid al-Adha and the start of the 12th Administration’s office saying: “We are sure that Iran-Turkey relations will continue better than before in the new administration”.

“Cooperation between Iran and Turkey is very important for settling regional issues,” said Erdoğan expressing regret over oppression on Muslims in Myanmar.
