President in a meeting with Serbian parliament speaker:

Tehran welcomes cementing ties with Belgrade in all fields/Stability, security in the Balkans important to Iran

President Rouhani described Iran-Serbia relations old and amicable, stating that Tehran welcomes deepening ties with Belgrade in all fields of mutual interest.

In the meeting that was held on Sunday, Dr Rouhani also said: "Security in the Balkans has always been very important to the Islamic Republic of Iran and we hope to witness further development of peace and stability in this region".

Stating that Iran and Serbia have myriad potentials to develop relations and cooperation, he said: "These potentials for cooperation, especially in economic and trade fields, can play a major role in developing cooperation between the two countries with further strengthening of banking relations".

Dr Rouhani also described lifting visa requirements for Iranian citizens by the Serbian parliament and government as the base for boosting relations and expressed hope that the visit of the Serbian parliament speaker contribute to promoting cooperation.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported dialogue for resolving disputes and disagreements among countries and preventing disagreements, especially in the Balkans," he said.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also said: "Unfortunately, some major countries in the world view the issues of different regions of the world, such as the Balkans, from their own interest. Therefore, it is very important that we can be able to settle our issues by ourselves through dialogue".

At the same meeting, the President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Maja Gojković also delivered the Serbian President and parliament's message of congratulations to Dr Rouhani and said: "We hope relations between the two countries further develop in your new term of office".

"Parliaments of Iran and Serbia have very close relations with each other and are even seeking ways to develop multilateral relations along with bilateral ones," she continued.

She also officially invited Dr Rouhani on behalf of the President of Serbia to visit the country and said that visa regime for Iranian citizens will be lifted soon.
