Iran, Turkmenistan stress efforts to further develop Tehran-Ashgabat trade exchanges, economic cooperation, exchanging experiences in combatting coronavirus

The Presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan referred to the friendly, brotherly relations between the two countries, and stressed the need for the efforts of the two countries' officials to further develop and strengthen Tehran-Ashgabat relations and cooperation in order to ensure the interests of the two nations.

In the phone call that took place with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Wednesday, Dr Hassan Rouhani congratulated him, the government and people of Turkmenistan on Eid al-Adha as the great feast of all Muslims around the world, saying, "Development of relations and cooperation with Turkmenistan is important to us because we have a common history and culture and good neighbourliness over the centuries and there has always been friendship and cooperation between the two countries”.

"Iran is ready to cooperate with Turkmenistan in the field of health and fighting coronavirus, and the communication between the officials and the exchange of experiences of the two countries in this regard should continue more than before,” said Rouhani, referring to the fact that today, all countries around the world are facing coronavirus and we should help each other in combatting the virus.

Stating that the outbreak of coronavirus has reduced trade and economic relations between the two countries, Dr Rouhani expressed hope that in the coming months with more control of the disease and the efforts of officials of the two countries will see further development of cooperation and relations in various economic fields.

The President assessed some measures taken to solve the problems of transportation and exchange of goods between the two countries, such as the construction of a new road bridge on the Sarakhs border and the resumption of rail traffic in order to develop trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, as positive, and stressed the importance of continuing these efforts.

During the same phone call, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow also congratulated the government and people of Iran on Eid al-Adha as one of the holy feasts of the Islamic world, saying, "Eid al-Adha is the symbol of humanity, mercy and generosity, and I hope that this feast brings peace, stability and mercy for the entire world”.

Referring to the deep-rooted and historical relations and cooperation between the two countries, the President of Turkmenistan said, "Fortunately, Iran and Turkmenistan have very good relations and common grounds in various economic, political and cultural fields and cooperation in international organisations".

Referring to the COVID-19 epidemic in the world and the praiseworthy efforts of the international community to combat it, he said, "We can achieve good results in the fight against coronavirus through cooperation and coordinated efforts".

Praising the Iranian President for his efforts to develop relations and cooperation between the two countries, Berdimuhamedow called for the development of cooperation for the development of border exchanges and the development of related guidelines, as well as scientific and health cooperation and joint ventures.
